Barcelona smash Valencia 6-0

May 5, 2008

From Goal.com:

Some truly abject defending from Valencia – and some fine attacking from Barcelona – saw the visitors leave Camp Nou with an utter rout on their conscience.

It was a cathartic display from the blaugrana. They came into this match off the back of 405 minutes without a goal, but rectified the situation within two, and scarcely let go from there. Too little, too late? Undoubtedly, but it was encouraging stuff nonetheless.

When my brother told me this, I couldn’t believe it. He told me to check Goal.com and WHAT? Barcelona blitz six past Valencia? No, this couldn’t be true. After about 3 games without scoring, they scored six in one!

I just wish they could do it every match… or at least before after the season has ended! (If you didn’t know, Real Madrid beat Osasuna 2.1 to win their 31st La Liga title.)

Saints beat Tigers by 3 points in a thriller

May 3, 2008

You just had to see it. With about a minute to go, Saints were up by 4 points. But then young Tiger Jack Riewoldt marked 45 metres out, directly in front. He took the kick, and it looked like it was going in. But bang! it hit the post. Deja vu? So it was the Saints by 3 points. Then Jack Riewoldt got it again, about 52 metres out, directly in front. But it was too far out for the 19 year-old, who couldn’t make the distance. So it was the Saints by 3 points.

Richmond vs St Kilda

May 3, 2008

So the Richmond vs St Kilda game just started, and I’ve tipped the Tigers, because the Saints just don’t seem confident in their gameplay. I think the Tigers are coming back, and even if it isn’t this year, they’re coming back. I say Richmond by 3 goals. Deledio best on ground.

Anyway, I’m off to watch it on the telly. I’ll update after the game.

Barcelona lose to Manchester United -Argh.

April 29, 2008

This morning, Barcelona lost to Manchester United – giving the Champions League an EPL final. Scholes had a smashing half volley into the top corner at 14 minutes, and Barca never replied. Now what is decided is just if Manchester play either Liverpool or Chelsea.

Let’s wait and see. But for now it’s just…
SIGHS ALL ROUND
UPDATE: Chelsea beat Liverpool in the second leg of the Semi Final and will play Manchester in Moscow for the title. The Blues beat the Reds 3-2 in extra time (It was 1-1 after normal time).

URGH! Sydney draw with North

April 27, 2008

The Swans just drew with North after a grueling last quarter. The swans, who were 16 points down at one point, scored 2 goals and four behinds (urgh) to tie up the scorers. Whoops. I mean the scores. I don’t know why people were just taking shots left, right and centre, and not passing it to Adam Goodes or Micky O… Then again, I would much rather have a draw than a loss.

This is where I can really say: Sighs all round.

Cats by a whisker at Subiaco

April 25, 2008

The Dockers were up by 25 points at the three quarter time and it looked like they would win it, but Geelong piled on five goals in a row, before the Dockers got a goal, and with one and a half minutes remaining it was 89-87 in Geelong’s favour. But Matthew Pavlich had the ball in his hands and was lining up from about 45 metres out, with a bit of an angle. He’s kicked it! NO! It hit the post and the Cats won by one single point.

Heartbreak for the Dockers, as they were 39 points up in the first quarter.

Magpies thrash the Dons in the ANZAC Day clash

April 25, 2008

Okay, sure, I wasn’t exactly right. The magpies thrashed Essendon by 73 points, not 2 goals, but it was definitely a shootout… from one end. Paul Medhurst starred, kicking 6 goals, but made  a couple of mistakes that could have gave him at least 8. Essendon were very good in the first face, but seemed to drop off after the quarter-time break. Here’s the stats:

Collingwood vs Essendon

April 25, 2008

Whos going to win? It’ll be close, but I reckon Collingwood will win by 2 goals in a shootout. Daryl Thomas will get Man of the Match, because he always rises to the occasion. I hope Alwyn Davey plays

Who do you reckon will win?

Training. Legs hurt

April 24, 2008

Now, I hope I don’t sound like a wuss but I just got back from soccer training and my legs are bloody killing me. All we did was running. From cone to cone, and doing some footwork. I’m sorry, but it feels like my legs are going to give in.

Updates as they come to hand (or legs)

Barcelona vs Manchester United 0-0

April 23, 2008

Argh. I got up at 4.30 to watch Barcelona vs Manchester United at the Nou Camp, and was frustrated to find that the final score was 0-0. Barcelona absolutely killed Manchester in the possession, 65% to 35%, but they didn’t manage to kick a single goal! I mean, it was 21 shots to 6, and 6 corners to 0, but Eto’o, Messi or Henry couldn’t score. So bloody annoying!

Now I’m tired.
